About Castleton

Castleton village attracts visitors who flock to see its four caves, Peveril Castle, six good pubs, many quaint tea rooms, a restaurant and a plethora of food and gift shops open all year round. All of the village hostelries serving quality food and ale are run by local residents and are within walking distance of the cottage. Oatcake is part of a friendly community village which basks in quiet and solitude. The welcoming Visitor's Centre and museum provides tourists with all the holiday information they require for an enjoyable stay in the Peak District, offering local information, maps and leaflets on the surrounding area.

Castleton continues to celebrate many ancient local festivals and Oak Apple Day on 29th of May is extremely popular with locals and tourists as they line the streets watching the parade pass through the village. Spring time welcomes the lambs and the village farm opens to welcome visitors to pet and feed the baby animals. During the last weekend in June, the local residents open their gardens to the public. This adds to the warm welcoming attitude of residents to tourists. Christmas time is particularly special as the village holds carol singing in two of the caves led by different local brass bands. Lit Christmas trees line the streets, adding to this magical ambiance.
